John Walters, Vice President and Program Director
Graduate of Plymouth State University with a degree in Physical Education with a concentration in Exercise Science and Coaching. John has been working in the field of exercise therapy since 2003 focused on working with people with disabilities and chronic injuries. In 2008 John played an integral role in helping to building Journey Forward from the ground up, developing materials and building relationships with both acute rehabilitation centers and local physical therapy clinics in the surrounding area. As Vice President and Program Director, John balances the daily administrative responsibilities of running the center, as well as helping to train the Journey Forward staff.
Ann Connors, Office Manager
After graduating for the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, with a degree in Art, Ann worked with children with autism before settling into a career as a Computer Programmer Analyst. After having children, Ann decided to change paths, and work part time. Along the way, she acquired bookkeeping skills which she now utilizes, working at her position as an Office Manager at Journey Forward. At Journey Forward, Ann enjoys working with wonderful people in an inspirational setting.
Lisa Paicos, Lokomat Technician
Lisa graduated from Bridgewater State College ‘06 with a B.S. in Exercise Science. She has been a Specialist at Journey Forward since its inception in 2008. Since that time Lisa has added Lokomat Technician to her credentials and she is also our Christopher and Dana Reeve NeuroRecovery Network cite Database Manager. Lisa has completed training in Locomotor Training Practices and Principles, Introduction to Neuromuscular Recovery Scale, Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation Course at Frazier Rehabilitation Hospital, Introduction to FES Ergometry, and is a certified Lokomat Trainer. Lisa lives in Stoughton, MA with her husband and two dogs. She enjoys her work at Journey Forward and seeing clients progress daily to reach their individual goals.
David Alexander, Lead Neuro-Exercise Specialist
David is our Lead Neurological Exercise Specialist and is also our Christopher and Dana Reeve NeuroRecovery Network cite Supervisor. David received his degree from Fitchburg State University in Exercise and Sports Science with a Minor in Business Administration, and concentration in Fitness Management. David is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist from NSCA. David has attended multiple NRN National Summits since 2014 while completing trainings in Locomotor Training Practice and Principles at Kessler Rehabilitation Hospital, Advanced Locomotor Training: Accelerating Decision-Making and Progression for Neuromuscular Recovery at Frazier Rehab Institute, Upper Extremity and Trunk Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation at Frazier Rehab institute, Introduction to Activity-based Therapy, Introduction to Neuromuscular Recovery Sale, Introduction to FES Ergometry and is a certified Lokomat User.
Jon grew up in Danvers, Massachusetts before moving down to North Carolina and graduating from High Point University in 2016. He studied Athletic Training for 3 years and graduated with an Exercise Science degree. As in Intern for Journey Forward in the summer of 2016, Jon was inspired by the clients. At the end of his internship, Jon was offered a job as a Neurological Exercise Specialist and gratefully accepted the position. Since then, he has completed Neuro RTI Locomotor Training Practices and Principles at Kessler Rehabilitation Hospital in New Jersey, and Neuro RTI Introduction to Activity Based Therapy. Jon looks forward to continuing his education in the neurological field as well as continuing to help the lives of the Journey Forward clients.
Nico is a graduate of The University Of Rhode Island with a B.S. in Kinesiology. He started his career as a Strength and Conditioning Coach at Salve Regina University and Athletic Standard. From there he went on to a Fitness Program Manager position prior to arriving at Journey Forward in 2015. Nico has attended multiple NRN National Summits since 2014 while completing trainings in Locomotor Training Practice and Principles at Kessler Rehabilitation Hospital, Upper Extremity and Trunk Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation at Frazier Rehab Institute, Introduction to Activity-based Therapy and Introduction to Neuromuscular Recovery Sale.
Ashley graduated from University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2016 with a B.S. in Kinesiology and minor in Psychology. She previously interned as a Strength and Conditioning Coach at Mike Boyle’s Strength and Conditioning, and at Shriners Children’s Hospital as a ‘BFIT coach’ for children with cerebral palsy. Ashley was hired in June of 2016 and has completed the Neuro RTI Locomotor Training Practices and Principles at Kessler Rehabilitation Hospital. She also attended the National Summit at Frazier Rehabilitation Hospital.
Greg started as an intern in the Summer of 2015 after graduating with a degree in Exercise Science from Bridgewater State University. He was hired immediately following the completion of the internship. In July of 2016, Greg assumed the role as Internship Program Director (IDP). As the IPD, Greg recruits and trains select college students from various universities in the field of Activity Based Therapies. Greg has also completed the Neuro RTI Locomotor Training Practices and Principles at Kessler Rehabilitation Hospital.
Matthew graduated from Florida Atlantic University in 2016 with a degree in Exercise Science. He worked with the FAU baseball team for two years before switching his focus to sports performance. For 4 years, Matt worked as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist in Boca Raton, Florida. During his time there, Matthew worked with high school, college and pro athletes from all sports. Matt was hired by Journey Forward as an Exercise Specialist during the Summer of 2017.
Alyssa graduated from Springfield College in 2015 with a B.S. in Applied Exercise Science and Rehabilitation and Disability Studies. At the completion of her ten week internship at Journey Forward, Alyssa was hired as a Neurological Exercise Specialist in November 2015. Alyssa has completed the Locomotor Training Practices and Principles at Kessler Rehabilitation Hospital, Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation Course at Frazier Rehabilitation Hospital, Introduction to Activity Based Therapy, and Introduction to Neuromuscular Recovery Scale.
Lauren is a 2013 graduate of the University of New Hampshire with a B.S in Exercise Science. Lauren began at Journey Forward in May of 2013 as an intern. She was hired as an Aide in November of 2013 and became a Specialist in February of 2014. Lauren has completed trainings in Locomotor Training Practices and Principles, Introduction to Neuromuscular Recovery Scale and Introduction to FES Ergometry.
Steven was born and raised in Newport, Rhode Island. His love for sports and coaching led him to pursue a degree in the sports medicine field. He graduated from the University of Rhode Island in 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and a concentration in Exercise Science. He proceeded to work as an intern at Perham Sports Medicine and Physical Therapy in Warwick, Rhode Island. After his internship, he worked as a personal trainer and group exercise instructor for the U.S. Navy at the Naval Station in Newport. While maintaining that position part time, in August of 2016 he started at Journey Forward, to work with a special population in a facility geared towards rehabilitation. His certifications include Navy Fitness, Concept 2 Indoor Rowing Instruction, and he is a certified Lokomat User.
Nick studied Exercise Science at Ithaca College where he earned his degree. Nick is certified as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist, Health Fitness Specialist, and Sports Nutritionist. Prior to his experience at Journey Forward, Nick has an additional 8 years of experience in the exercise science field.
Davis’ love for sports led him to pursue a master’s degree in PHED: Strength and Conditioning from Bridgewater State University. During his master’s program, he completed an internship as a strength and conditioning coach at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. Although he worked with a wide variety of athletes, it was there that he was first exposed to, and fell in love with, the world of adaptive training. After the conclusion of his internship, he was hired on as the Head Paralympic Strength and Conditioning Coach at the training center. Davis trained athletes from numerous different sports with all types of disabilities. After the completion of the Olympic and Paralympic cycle, Davis’ desire to further his niche in adaptive training led him to Journey Forward. He has a great passion for working around his client’s different levels of abilities to help them achieve their recovery goals.
USAW (Level 1)
Michael has been a Specialist at Journey Forward since its inception in 2008. He graduated from Ball State University with a degree in Exercise Science ‘03 and Providence College with an MBA in 2006. Michael spent 4 years as a Strength and Conditioning Coach before joining the team at Journey Forward. Since, he has completed Training Practices and Principles at Kessler Rehabilitation Hospital, attended multiple National Summits at Frazier Rehabilitation Hospital, Introduction to Neuromuscular Recovery Sale, Introduction to FES Ergometry and is a certified Lokomat Trainer.
Michael graduated from the University of Rhode Island in 2007, with a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and Exercise Science. Being in the health and wellness field his entire career, Michael is a certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and has trained athletes from youth to the professional level. Michael brings clinical knowledge from his time as an Exercise Physiologist at the South Shore Hospital. Michael enjoys challenging his clients with his creativity, humor, and fun attitude while helping to better their lives. Michael is also a certified Lokomat User.
Steve graduated from Bridgewater State College in 2010 with a B.S. in Exercise Physiology. After working in an outpatient orthopedic physical therapy facility, he transitioned into activity based therapy when he was hired at Journey Forward as a Specialist in September of 2015. Steve has completed trainings in and is a certified Lokomat User.
