When most of us see someone in a wheelchair, who has suffered a spinal cord injury, we think how terrible it is that their legs have been taken from them and they can no longer walk. Where, in fact, that is only the beginning. SCI not only takes away one’s ability to walk, but also their ability to be independent in everyday life. Many of those with SCI can no longer feed themselves, can no longer use the restroom freely, and most likely have had their life span dramatically cut due to secondary complications that come from SCI. In addition, SCI does not discriminate and can happen to anyone.
Journey Forward is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization whose mission is to better the lives of those who have suffered a Spinal Cord Injury through an intense exercise program. Our program offers those with an SCI an opportunity beyond traditional recovery. Many of those with SCI are given little hope after they are discharged from the hospital. However, we have found that, given the correct stimulus, those with SCI can gain recovery even years after their injury. Our program allows victims of SCI to regain their independence and give them hope that their dreams are not lost.
Our program takes dedication from all of those involved. It takes the dedication of our highly trained staff and the clients who participate in our program. It also takes the dedication of donors. Without donors our program is unable to help those who so desperately need and can benefit from our program.
